Friday Night at Urban Accents Gallery

Gallery Night is almost here! I hope to see a whole lot of people I know and meet a whole lot more that I don't at the reception. I plan of being there around 6:00pm or so if that is of help to anyone. Please call me at (262) 492 9090 or shoot me an e-mail at fjkorb@sbcglobal.net if you have any questions. I have heard from a number of good friends , thanks for the e-mails, and I hope to see them there. In addition to the Urban Accents Gallery, I have been asked to participate in the inaugural exhibition at the newly remodeled Roberta Avonn Fiskum Gallery at my alma matter UW-Whitewater. What an exciting opportunity, thanks to Beth Wiza and Kim Adams for the invitation.

NPR - A Way With Words

Posted on the "A Way With Words" website at http://www.waywordradio.org/2008/01/05/typewriters-we-have-loved/ today is my contribution to the national conversation. My wife Julie and I have been going round and round about "regardless" and "irregardless" for some time. The commentary I have with the gracious hosts is somewhere in the middle of the show, but if you want to sharpen your verbage and literary useage of vocabulary, the entire show is well worth listening to. Unfortunately, a lovely story about Julie and I speaking with her grandfather and him correcting her useage of "regardless" never got told. I'll have to tell you that one later. Thanks to Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett for great fun on the national stage. 15 minutes of fame, one second at a time!

Frank Korb
Reminiscent of Alex Katz's portraits of his wife Ada, and his New York society, Frank Korb's portraits break down faces into their most basic geometry. Large jig-sawed swaths of color magically reveal the personality of the subject - mainly friends and family of the artist.

Friday, January 18 and Saturday, January 19 Milwaukee's East Town and Historic Third Ward will be sponsoring it's 20 year old tradition of Gallery Night and Day. I will be at Urban Accents Gallery on Friday night for the reception. This quarterly event will have 57 venues throughout the downtown Milwaukee area to choose from. During the Gallery Night event there will be a free Xpress shuttle service to get you from one area of the city to another. This is a continual loop that has 5 stops (approximately every 15 minutes) and will run from 5 - 9pm.

Resolutions for 2008

Welcome to the Juxtaposition of Color blog. I hope, over the next year, to contribute my share of good will, curious anecdotes, links to web sites that I have found interesting and artwork of my own and others. To begin the year, please look at, buy for yourself and another as a gift the book "The Faith Between Us" by Peter Bebergal and Scott Korb.

Resolutions... Last year's went pretty well. Two of five didn't get accomplished, but being more patient with those I love is always a struggle and reading for 15 minutes a day, which seems like an easy thing to do, wasn't. 2007 was full of running. I ran and ran and ran and ran! This year, I'll begin with running 20 miles a week (that's a bit more than I am currently running, but down from my September numbers) and see where I go from there. I will maintain my well earned weight, and not lose any more. From January 1, 2007 to January 1, 2008, I lost 40 pounds, just by running and being conscious of my diet. I will continue to draw one portrait, every day, until June 19, and then I will reflect upon the 365 portraits and consider what to fill my next year with beginning June 20 (my birthday) and I will post my favorite from that week here. I will create 1 large scale work of art every 2 months. Drawings, paintings, whatever vein I choose, I will set a goal of 6 new, major works this year. Last year it all got done in a one month spurt, and I need to get to the studio more often. Of course, more patience with those I love, I will not take them for granted.

That's five resolutions. Five is a good number.

I look forward to a great 2008, and I wish you well and God's blessings.
